I worked for Skills Ontario in 2014 and 2015 as their sole Communications staff. In true #otherdutiesasassigned fashion I acted as a PR specialist, a graphic designer, a content creator, a web editor, a media contact, a grant administrator, an events helper, a social media coordinator and a one-time excavator operator. Here are some examples of my work.
When I started at Skills, I quickly realized that emailing releases to individual media contacts took a long time and didn’t always work. With the help of my co-op student, we created and maintained a CRM of media outlets in Ontario so that we could send a release to multiple contacts and really focus on target outlets. Our CRM was a success and we saw an increase in media coverage immediately. Take a look at some of the stories:
